Frequently asked questions
What is MCP and how does it work with Claude? +
MCP (Model Context Protocol) is the standard Claude uses to talk to external tools. mcPost is a hosted MCP server: you add one URL to Claude, log in once, and Claude can read and manage your mailbox via natural language — securely, on your own server.
Which email providers are supported? +
Any provider that speaks IMAP and SMTP — which is almost all of them. Plesk, mailbox.org, dovecot, Office 365, Gmail (with app password), Fastmail, your own mail server. We do not require provider-specific OAuth.
Where is my data stored? +
Your mail stays on your own mailbox. We store the IMAP credentials (encrypted), a per-user audit log, and OAuth tokens — all in a managed PostgreSQL cluster in a Frankfurt data centre.
How safe are my IMAP passwords? +
They're encrypted with AES-256-GCM before being written to the database, using a master key kept outside the database. They're decrypted only in-memory when a tool call actually needs them, then dropped.
What's the difference between Free and Premium? +
Free covers read-only access on a single mailbox — search, list, read. Premium unlocks the write tools (drafts, moves, sends, flagging, deletion) and lets you connect up to ten mailboxes.
Can I cancel any time? +
Yes. No minimum term. You can delete your account from the portal — credentials, audit logs, and tokens are wiped immediately.
Do you offer an Auftragsverarbeitungs-Vertrag (DPA)? +
Yes — once you're on Premium we provide a signed AVV / DPA on request. It's required if you're handling third-party email under GDPR.
